Being a mum is simply the best fun, especially on mother’s day. My favourite part is the breakfast. The loud whispering about what to make, the excited clanging from the kitchen, the calling out “mum, don’t come downstairs yet”, and then… the grand presentation as they enter the bedroom beaming. This year it was scones with jam and cream (leftovers from the workshop the day before) and crumpets with peanut butter and a knife and fork wrapped in a serviette cafe-style. Then they sit on the end of the bed and watch you eat every single mouthful. Proud exclamations of, “that part was my idea” and “I buttered that all by myself” are made. I absolutely 100% love and adore that breakfast more than any other breakfast I have ever eaten.
The rest of our day was fab as well. My brothers and sis-in-law came to Will’s footy game to cheer Will and the Zebbies on. Then they joined us for a carb-infested lunch that lasted until dinner time. All high-protein diets were put on hold and we had spinach and ricotta cannelloni, potato bake, fennel salad and crusty bread.
Here is Dave with my brothers, Matt in the middle and Mike on the right, taken at my aunt’s recent wedding. They are such great uncles and helped make yesterday so fun, keeping the red wine and laughs flowing.
And from the same wedding, here is Aunty Lou (Matt’s wife), who also made yesterday so great by dressing up in Zeb colours, baking with the girls and reading stories to all.
And here is a little muffin from a session a few weeks ago, who yesterday gave his mummy her first mother’s day.
