I am writing this quick post from Hobart where I am spending the week at the AIPP Nikon Event. As is always the way when I travel, I am frantic in the days leading up to going away, trying desperately to bring everything up to date.
As I was falling asleep at my computer at midnight the night before our early flight it dawned on me – everything will never be done, finished, complete, up to date. That is the nature of business. I love the word acceptance – which my step-father told me years ago was such an important part of life. Often there are just things we need to accept and then move on. Rather than pulling it apart, over-analysing it, trying to reason with it or fix it…
Self employed people who work from home are notorious for working long hours – and I am one of them. Accepting that all the work will never be done, the Inbox will always be filling, there will always be sessions to process (god-willing)… took a weight off the stress I was feeling.
It will also change how I work when I return on Thursday. Each day I will give myself two or three important tasks that move my business forward and then I’ll turn the computer off knowing a day’s work has been done and it will all be there again tomorrow.
And, to add some pics, a few of the kids from our Sunday outing last week. x
